Extra qualification for BSL student
Well done to former Year 13 student, Ajay Rall, who successfully completed his BSL (British Sign Language) Level 2 qualification just before the summer, equivalent to a GCSE grade B.
Ajay is the first hearing student to join Mr Basser’s BSL class with deaf students and BSL tutors, giving up his own time to develop his skills. Ajay progressed to Level 2 following the successful completion of Level 1 in 2015, showing his commitment to learning how to communicate with deaf people during his time at Allerton Grange.
Mr Basser, Deaf Instructor with the Deaf and Hearing Impairment Team (DAHIT) based in school, said “Ajay has been a fantastic student and a good role model for others. He has shown lots of potential in developing his skills which could help him towards a career working with deaf people. He’s extremely self-motivated and has a positive attitude towards everyone, both deaf and hearing peers at Allerton Grange.”
Mr Basser offers training to staff and students wishing to learn BSL, supporting anyone who wants to know how to communicate more effectively with the deaf community. Mr Basser is available in the DAHIT base within the Languages and RS pod on the lower ground floor.
