Favourite author visits Allerton Grange

As part of her ‘Love from Lexie’ book tour, best-selling author Cathy Cassidy visited Allerton Grange School.

At 350 people, the audience was one of the largest we’ve ever hosted at Allerton Grange, consisting not only of our Year 7 and 8 girls, but also some Year 5 girls from Kerr Mackie, Talbot and Moor Allerton Hall. The entire audience burst into spontaneous applause as soon as Cathy made her entrance; we were all very excited to meet one of our favourite authors.

We had the opportunity to listen to Cathy talk about her novel, as well as her inspiration for writing the books. We now know that she’s an avid collector of beautiful things that no one else would want, like her old fashioned typewriter, and she includes items like this in her own novels.

Cathy explained her writing process to a rapt audience. She showed mood boards for different characters and even her art work for them. As a visual writer, Cathy enjoys having images around her to inspire her as she writes.

Finally, students had the opportunity to ask questions and take a quiz to see which ‘Love from Lexie’ character they were like.

The whole event was highly enjoyable. Cathy was a fantastic inspiration for all of our girls and we hope to see her back at Allerton Grange soon.
