Girls’ Rugby Festival
On Wednesday 4 October, Allerton Grange School had the privilege of hosting a Leeds Rhinos Girls’ Rugby Festival. The tournament was arranged as part of our on-going partnership with the Leeds Rhino’s Foundation, which is working to increase girls’ participation in the sport. Our Schools’ Rugby Development Coach, Louis Forsell, helped to set up the tournament with Miss Radford, and was joined by ex-Leeds Rhino player, Chev Walker.
Ten schools from the Leeds area participated in the tournament, including Cockburn from south Leeds, and Morley Academy from the far west of the City. The field was full of colour as teams wore their school rugby shirts with pride. Players certainly brought their A-game, scoring tries and winning tackles to take the lead.
Assisting with coaching the Year 9 team were our fabulous Rugby Ambassadors. A visitor from another school said of Holly and Alice in particular: “I offered my advice as a Level 2 Rugby League coach to two lovely young ladies who were more familiar with the rules of Rugby Union. They both took my advice on board and even came back up to me at the end to thank me for my help and talking to the team; these girls are a credit to your school.”
The event was a roaring success with positive comments from everyone involved. Overall the Allerton Grange team came joint 4th in their pool, well done girls!
