Youngsters’ efforts add up
Allerton Grange hosted 40 Year 5 students, from six local Primary schools, for the annual Primary Maths Challenge. Students from Highfield, Wigton Moor, Hovingham, Chapel Allerton, Moortown and Moor Allerton Hall attended the event which was well-received by all.
The activities involved a group task, a logic round, a relay round and a 'find the number' puzzle.
The aim of the event was to significantly challenge students to extend and deepen their mathematical learning and understanding, as well as developing teamwork and problem solving skills.
The enthusiasm and unwavering resilience shown by the students really stood out, as well as some excellent mathematical thinking.
All students involved received a certificate of attendance. The top three places were awarded prizes, with the first prize being won by Chapel Allerton Primary School who showed their mathematical prowess. Four individual students also received an extra prize for standing out as shining examples of what the event was aiming to achieve.
Well done to all students involved, and a big thank you to all the staff who came along and supported, both from Allerton Grange and the primary schools themselves. Thank you also goes to four Year 7 students who took on a leadership role and assisted throughout the day.
