Dear Parents and Students

I have pleasure in enclosing the published report following our full Ofsted inspection on 18 and 19 September 2012.

The inspection team enjoyed meeting our students, seeing them at work and hearing their views. They found Allerton Grange to be a good school with good capacity to improve further. Our Sixth Form was, yet again, judged to be good.

We are particularly pleased with the following judgements made by Ofsted about our school:

  • Students make good progress and learn well.
  • All students, including the deaf and hearing impaired make equally good progress.
  • Reading, writing and numeracy are well promoted.
  • The quality of teaching has improved significantly and is now good.
  • Teachers have high expectations of learning and good subject knowledge.
  • Teaching assistants provide good support for students with additional needs.
  • Student behaviour and safety are good and have improved significantly.
  • Students are proud of their school, they behave well and have positive attitudes to learning.
  • Attendance has improved significantly.
  • The positive school climate based on including all students in the life of the school, respect for others and diversity fosters a strong sense of community among students.
  • Governors have ensured that there is good capacity for further improvement.

The inspection team spent two full days in our school. They spoke to many staff and hundreds of students. Many lessons were observed and student work and school documentation was scrutinised. The enclosed report recognises the improvements we have made in recent years and portrays Allerton Grange accurately. However, I can assure you that we are in no way complacent and all staff have a determination to continue to improve the quality of education and care we provide for our students.
