Andy Norrington
Associate Headteacher

Andy Norrington

My name is Andy Norrington and my role is Associate Headteacher. I’m responsible for Personal Development and deputising for the Headteacher in his absence.

I’ve worked at AGS for seven years and I’ve been on SLT since joining the school in September 2017.

I love being a leader and working with the amazing staff and students at AGS! If I had to choose one aspect that makes leadership at AGS so rewarding, it would be the fact that I can help to change someone's life or career path by guiding, mentoring and supporting them; this is true for both staff and students. We have an amazing, diverse community at AGS and it is an absolute pleasure and privilege to work with such talented staff and students.  Personal Development at AGS helps our students to understand the ever changing world we live in, whilst helping to grow and nurture leaders of the future.

I feel very lucky that I have lots of opportunities to visit students' lessons, to talk to students about their learning and aspirations for the future and to see the wonderful work they produce in their subjects. I also love working with the fantastic team of teachers and support staff at AGS - everyone wants to ensure that all students achieve the best they can and it's a privilege to work alongside such dedicated staff.

Kate Moore
Acting Deputy Headteacher

Kate Moore

My name is Kate Moore and I am Acting Deputy Headteacher.

I love working at Allerton Grange School firstly, because of our students. They are curious and ambitious and have an unwavering sense of justice. This can be seen in engagement in lessons as well as the various extra curricula activities students invest their time in. The positive character traits that students exhibit shapes our wonderful culture that celebrates academic excellence, diversity and inclusivity. It is typical that a teachers stood on duty will be asked by a student how their day is going.

I feel very humbled to be part of a school community where evidence based research underpins our strategic decisions as a leadership team. We only direct colleagues to make changes grounded in the latest research. The collaborative and innovative nature of staff at all levels means that the school is dynamic and forward looking. Students well-being and academic progress are always at the heart of curricula and pastoral decisions. I am proud that we can say that we are genuinely a community who support one another, but also act as critical allies, so that we are constantly on a journey of improvement.

Michaela Child
SENDCO and Assistant Headteacher (Strategic Partnerships)

Michaela Child

My name is Michaela Child I am Assistant Headteacher for Strategic Partnerships and I'm also the school SENDCo.

I've been on leadership at Allerton Grange for 11 years. I love the school; I love how multicultural it is, how vibrant it is, and how wonderful our young people and staff are. It is a very special place to be and I am lucky to work here.

For me, SEND is a critical part of the school to get right. I am driven to improve the educational opportunities and life chances of the students under my care and want them to leave us for a successful and enriching future and knowing how to deploy strategies that will help them for the rest of their lives.

I work with lots of people: staff, students, their families, the local cluster, Educational Psychologists, Speech and Language Therapy, the STARS team, SENIT, primary schools - the list goes on. It's a very busy role but I can't imagine doing anything better.

Sarah Whittingham
Assistant Headteacher - Safeguarding & Welfare

Sarah Whittingham

My name is Sarah Whittingham and I’m one of the Assistant Headteachers here at Allerton Grange School.

I am responsible for Safeguarding, Attendance, Admissions, Wellbeing and the PPD (School behaviour policy). I am also the Senior Leadership Team link for Year 7 (I love this part of my work).

I joined the school in February 2009 and became a member of the Senior Leadership Team in April 2015.

They say if you find a job you love, you’ll never have to work again and I feel lucky to have achieved that. I am blessed to have wonderful, supportive colleagues, both in Senior Leadership and across the wider school.

I am part of a team who go to great lengths to make sure all are young people are safe, happy and able to succeed. I am proud of the people I work with, but also the young people we all work for.

I think my favourite part of the role I do is how varied and unpredictable it is. I love that every day is a new day and each morning I have no idea what the day will bring. You need to experience working in a school environment, especially one of this size, to appreciate the pace you need to work at to get everything done. There are curveballs from every angle.

Another positive element of my work is the rewarding nature of it, what better way to earn a living than to try and nurture the next generation, it is an absolute privilege.
