Religious Studies, Philosophy and Ethics
Religious Studies, Philosophy and Ethics is a popular and very successful subject at our school.
As a diverse school, we see our role as essential in supporting students to understand and appreciate other faiths and cultures. We also support students in understanding how different moral codes influence society and help them develop an understanding of their own opinions and influences. Religious Studies, Philosophy and Ethics is taught in dedicated classrooms which house specialist resources and artefacts.
Year 7 - Term 1
Topic Title: What is Religion all about?
This is a exploration of the some of the key features of what makes up the disciplines of Religion, Philosophy and Ethics including:
What influences world views?
What is truth?
Who were the Ancient Greek Philosophers?
What does it mean to be religious?
Where and when did religion start and how did it spread?
Year 7 – Term 2
Topic Title : Why are scriptural figures important to Abrahamic religions?
We will be studying important scriptural figures from across the Abrahamic religions including Moses, Muhammed, Jesus, Abraham and Adam and the events that led to their significance.
Year 7 - Term 3
Topic Title : How do Dharmic religions turn belief into practice?
We will be studying the beliefs of Hinduism, Sikhism and Buddhism including their views of God, karma, reincarnation, dharma and how they turn these beliefs into practices, explaining the significance of puja, the 5K`s and meditation.
